How to disable mail storage on a POP3 server

Posted under Internet, MS Outlook by ifoundafix

The other day while browsing the Internet I Found A Fix for a recent problem I was having. The issue is described as follows:

If Outlook is the only interface to an e-mail account, (a direct web interface is not used), then mails should not be left on the server. This article outlines how to set this in Outlook.

Open Microsoft Outlook
Go to the ‘Tools’ menu and from there you can select ‘E-mail Accounts…’

outlook2003_1

This will bring you to the following window (see below)

outlook2003_2

Select ‘View or change existing e-mail accounts’ and then click ‘Next’

outlook2003_3

Then you will see a window with your e-mail options (as you see below, except it will have your name, e-mail and POP3 settings)
outlook2003_4

Now you should click the button ‘More Settings.

Then you will see the following window. Click on the tab ‘Advanced’ .

outlook2003_5

This will show the Advanced settings.

There is a tick box for ‘Leave copy of messages on the server’

outlook2003_6

This needs to be off, so if it is ticked, then untick it.

When this is done, click the ‘OK’ button.

Then click ‘cancel’ on the window for e-mail accounts (as that will still be open)
